The V8 Foundation

“Q. How do you propose to do this?

A. By saving the knowledge of the race. The sum of human knowing is beyond any one man; any thousand men. With the destruction of our social fabric, science will be broken into a million pieces. Individuals will know much of the exceedingly tiny facets of which there is to know. They will be helpless and useless by themselves. The bits of lore, meaningless, will not be passed on. They will be lost through the generations. But, if we now prepare a giant summary of all knowledge, it will never be lost. Coming generations will build on it, and will not have to rediscover it for themselves. One millennium will do the work of thirty thousand.”

Hari Seldon, Foundation series by Isaac Asimov (1951)

October’s DKGcon saw the launch of the Metcalfe Genesis phase of the OriginTrail roadmap. The Decentralized Knowledge Graph (DKG) has seen staggering growth since, reaching over 3MM Knowledge Assets published before the end of 2023. New partners have joined the OriginTrail ecosystem, bringing industry-leading real-world adoption and solving tangible problems of misinformation across sectors.

In 2024, we’re on the cusp of monumental progress as the Metcalfe Genesis phase continues, leading up to the much-anticipated launch of the OriginTrail DKG V8. On this path, we will see three impact bases get established, forming the V8 Foundation which is inspired by the legendary works of Isaac Asimov, symbolizing the bold steps into a future where knowledge and innovation converge.

Impact base: Trantor (established in Q1 2024)

One of the prominent features of Trantor was the Library of Trantor, in which librarians indexed the entirety of human knowledge by walking up to a different computer terminal every day and resuming where the previous librarian left off.

Catalyst 1: Beta Knowledge mining launch

Knowledge Mining is the process of producing high-quality, blockchain-tracked knowledge for artificial intelligence (AI), supported by the NeuroWeb (parachain on Polkadot, formerly known as OriginTrail Parachain). During the beta knowledge mining, an initial 1,000,000 NEURO token pool will be made available to be mined by publishing high-quality Knowledge Assets to the DKG. Miners will be able to apply for the beta program and start knowledge mining as soon as January. The beta Knowledge miners will be eligible to claim NEURO rewards by publishing Knowledge Assets using both NeuroWeb and Gnosis blockchains. The beta program will be gathering key learnings on the dynamics of knowledge mining as the system matures from beta towards its fully decentralized version on NeuroWeb, setting the stage for the future of knowledge creation across all of humanity’s knowledge fields. Details are available in OT-RFC-20 and more will be shared in the upcoming knowledge mining kit release.

Catalyst 2: Delegated staking launch

As NeuroWeb is loaded with growing enterprise adoption and is used in production environments, the incubation of the new DKG staking module will initially be validated on the Gnosis chain. Gnosis is the ideal environment for staking incubation as DKG V6 integration will already include the new staking module (no breaking change risk). Igniting network activity on the Gnosis chain, 1,000,000 TRAC will be used to kickstart knowledge creation. At the same time, the DKG on NeuroWeb is expected to grow faster with Polkadot’s asynchronous backing feature and other upcoming updates (increasing throughput by a significant factor). Details on delegated staking are available in OT-RFC-18.

Impact base: Terminus (established in Q2 2024)

The founding population of Terminus consisted of 100,000 especially healthy scientists, whose ostensible purpose was to publish an Encyclopedia Galactica in order to preserve science and technology. The lack of natural resources forced Terminians to develop extremely high-efficiency tech, as their knowledge due to their position as the inheritors of the Imperial Library allowed them to do so.

Catalyst 1: Random sampling module for 100x scalability increase in Knowledge Asset throughput capacity

The explosive growth of the amount of Knowledge Assets on the DKG V6 has enabled the network to proceed towards the next scalability upgrade. DKG nodes will benefit from the improved “random sampling” method, a significant optimization of blockchain usage resulting in over 100x scalability increase in the amount of Knowledge Assets supported by the DKG and the blockchain layer.

Catalyst 2: Multichain growth

The multichain approach will explore integrations ranging from the most robust blockchains (e.g. Bitcoin) to the fastest yet less robust chains with strongly established markets, in accordance with the ecosystem’s neutrality principle.

Impact base: Gaia (established in H2 2024)

The human beings on Gaia, under robotic guidance, not only evolved their ability to form an ongoing telepathic group consciousness but also extended this consciousness to the fauna and flora of the planet itself, even including inanimate matter. As a result, the entire planet became a super-organism.

Catalyst: AI-powered Autonomous Knowledge Mining

Synergizing the effects of Trantor and Terminus bases, Gaia drives the OriginTrail DKG native AI integrations with any model (e.g. Gemini, GPT), vector database (e.g. Milvus, Weaviate), and agent (e.g. AutoGPT). The AI-native capabilities enable a suite of autonomous activities — from discovering inferences in the DKG and mining new knowledge to validating existing data and autonomous agent-based solutions using trusted knowledge on the DKG. The Gaia impact base catalyzation leads to the Convergence in the Metcalfe roadmap phase.

Conclusion

The impact bases presented in this blog post serve as the V8 Foundation, describing core fields in which impact must be pursued to achieve an effective DKG V8 launch. The above does not focus on integrations with the world’s leading tech solution providers, growing governmental and institutional support, or other adoption updates. Each of the impact bases and their outcomes are therefore expected to be further augmented by the ongoing DKG adoption.

About OriginTrail

OriginTrail is an ecosystem-building decentralized knowledge infrastructure for artificial intelligence (AI). With the mission of tackling misinformation, which is exacerbated with AI adoption, OriginTrail enables verifiably tracking origins of information, discoverability, and integrity of knowledge to enable trusted AI. It has various applications in the domains of real-world assets (RWAs), search and recommendation engines, question-answering systems, and generally knowledge-dependent applications (such as AI systems).

OriginTrail’s initial adoption was in global supply chains, serving as a trusted hub for supply chain data sharing, allowing customers to authenticate and track products and keep these operations secure. In recent years, the rise of AI has not only created unprecedented opportunities for progress but also amplified the challenge of misinformation. OriginTrail also addresses this by functioning as an ecosystem focused on building a trusted knowledge infrastructure for AI in two ways — driving discoverability of the world’s most important knowledge and enabling the verifiable origin of the information. The adoption of OriginTrail in various enterprise solutions underscores the technology’s growing relevance and impact across diverse industries including real-world asset tokenization (RWAs), the construction industry, supply chains, healthcare, metaverse, and others.

OriginTrail is creating a Verifiable Web for decentralized AI by empowering world-class brands and builders. It utilizes its unique Decentralized Knowledge Graph and OriginTrail Parachain to deliver AI-powered search and solutions for enterprises and individuals worldwide.

OriginTrail has gained support and partnerships with world-class organizations such as British Standards Institution, SCAN, Polkadot, Parity, Walmart, the World Federation of Hemophilia, Oracle, and the EU Commission’s Next Generation Internet. These partnerships contribute to advancing OriginTrail’s trusted knowledge foundation and its applicability in trillion-dollar industries while providing a verifiable web of knowledge important in particular to drive the economies of RWAs.
